For more than fifty years Columbia Law School has offered this Summer Program in American Law in collaboration with the law faculties of Leiden and Amsterdam Universities. The Program is held every summer in July and alternates each year between Leiden and Amsterdam.
The Columbia Summer Program teaching staff are known for the excellence and high quality that they bring to Amsterdam and Leiden every year.
I lived the Program as a real breath of fresh air in my Law studies: In addition to the undeniable intellecutal enrichment of the courses, it was an incredible chance to meet people from the entire world, discover their way of thinking, and explore a wonderful city guided by its inhabitants. The days spent with these persons will remain etched in my memory and I am sure that some will be my friends for life!

Participant Columbia Summer Program 2017, Amsterdam
The summer of 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the Leiden-Amsterdam-Columbia Summer Program in American Law. A great landmark that deserved a significant celebration. We would like to thank all alumni who joined us for a memorable reunion on June 28 2013, that replicated our Columbia Summer experiences!
At the end of the Summer Program in American law the Hans Smit Prize will be awarded to a participant of the program based on his or her intellectual performance as well as a group member. The prize is named after the founder of the program Hans Smit. He was a distinguished Columbia Law School professor and a leading scholar and practitioner in the fields of international arbitration and international procedure.
